It’s clearly not the same animal. It’s black-and-white in one picture and colour in the other.

Thylocene aka Tasmanian Tiger which WAS a marsupial carnivore. Became extinct in the early 1900′s, although some Tasmanians hint at sightings in the Tasmanian “Old Growth” forests as late as the 1980′s. None substantiated.
